An affordable and well specified, if slightly bulky, superzoom proposition.

The 8-megapixel Canon SX100 IS is the first in a new range combining the advanced functionality and affordability of the ‘A’ series with an extended 10x optical zoom.
New Range
The Canon SX100 IS is the first in a new range combining the advanced functionality and affordability of the ‘A’ series with an extended 10x optical zoom. Other noteworthy features include an 8MP CCD sensor, optical image stabilisation, a 2.5in LCD screen and features such as face detection and 18 shooting modes, alongside manual control.
Performance

The SX100 IS is a bit bulky in the palm and lacks a feeling of build quality. A slight shutter lag is noticeable in operation, and the 2.5in LCD screen could also do with a boost to its sub-standard 172k pixel resolution.
