The 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S210 is an entry-level compact that features a 3x zoom, 15 scene modes and SDHC compatibility.

S200 Update

An update of the popular S200, Nikon’s latest super-slim entry model ticks a lot of boxes for the price: 8MP sensor, Vibration Reduction (electronic), Face Detection, High ISO (up to ISO 2000), D-Lighting and, of course, a choice of snazzy colours.

Performance

The styling and build quality belies the selling price and unlike many small cameras it isn’t fiddly to use. The buttons on the back are a good size, well placed and easy to read, with a clear menu interface, too. In use the camera is a bit sluggish to start up but once on wastes little time.

Image Quality

Images look sharp and well saturated at normal sizes, though under magnification you can see a lot of processing has been employed to make it so. The exception is the high ISO mode where at ISO 1600 the results can be a ghastly noise-fest. Overall though, the S210 gives you a lot for your money.
