There’s no denying that the EOS M3 is a huge improvement on the original EOS M1. To begin with it’s compact and impressively well made, with a control layout that makes it a pleasure to use.

There are also improvements in terms of general operation. The camera’s autofocus speed is a huge improvement on its predecessor, although it does still lag some way behind notable competitors.

Image quality is also improved, with the new sensor delivering some impressive results including a huge amount of detail and low noise at lower ISO settings.

There are areas in which the new camera is still lacking, however. Notably, the relatively slow burst mode and small buffer make the M3 feel a bit dated, while the kit lens also feels in need of an update already.

So, although the M3 is a huge improvement on its predecessor it’s up against some serious competition and it’s difficult to claim that it outperforms its closest challengers.
