Following the announcement of the APO Macro 180mm f/2.8 lens, Sigma has released pricing and availability

Sigma has announced that the new Sigma APO Macro 180mm f/2.8 lens will be priced at £1499.99 and will be available on 27th July for Canon fit. Sigma and Nikon fittings will follow.

This is the first 180mm macro lens incorporating a magnification ratio of 1:1 and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. Benefiting from Sigma’s original Optical Stabiliser function (enabling handheld close-up photography) and wide f/2.8 aperture it enables faster shutter speeds. Three FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements provide correction for colour aberrations and it incorporates Sigma’s floating inner focusing system. This minimises aberrations that occur as shooting distances change and enables stable rendering of the image from infinity to 1:1 magnification.

The incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) gives a quiet and high-speed autofocus as well as full-time manual focus capability. At 1:1 magnification, this lens has a focusing distance of 47cm/18.5in, which is a greater working distance than shorter focal length macro lenses and proves advantageous when taking pictures of highly sensitive subjects such as butterflies and insects.

The price includes the fitted case, bayonet type hood, hood adapter and tripod socket.
