S1100pj and S5100 arrive with enhanced projector functionality and improved low-light shooting respectively.
Nikon has today expanded its popular Coolpix range with a pair of compact cameras boasting improved functionality. The pair comprise of an update to the award-winning S1000pj projector phone and a new versatile shooter aimed at producing excellent results in low light.
First up is the new S1100pj – featuring an on-board projector, the camera is the successor to the award-winning S1000pj. The S1100pj features a host up updates, including a new 14-lumen projector that is a massive 40% brighter than its predecessor. The S1100pj also boasts an impressive conventional camera specification, offering a 14.1MP sensor, 5x optical zoom, wide-angle Nikkor lens and 460k-dot, 3in touch-screen LCD. The S1100pj also features a range of in-camera retouch features, such as a fisheye effect and colour highlighting.
Available in both black and green, the S1100pj will be on sale from 16th September this year.
The second new Coolpix camera announced today is the ‘slim and stylish’ Coolpix S5100. The 12.2MP S5100 is, on first look, much like the rest of the slim Coolpix range, though Nikon has placed a firm emphasis on low-light performance with the new compact. The S5100 features a lens-shift VR system, enhanced Motion Detection and a ‘ground-breaking’ flash control system. The S5100 also boasts the ability to recognise when you are holding the camera, as opposed to when it’s sitting on a tripod, and adjust the settings as appropriate.
The S5100 also offers 720p HD video camera, 28mm wide-angle 5x optical zoom, all crammed in a body measuring just 21.6mm thick. No details are as yet available on price or availability, so stay tuned to the Nikon website for more information.
