After months of speculation Mamiya has finally released availability details of its first medium format digital SLR. Originally announced at 2004?s Photokina show, the 22 megapixel Mamiya ZD is now available through authorised Mamiya retailers, priced £7000 plus VAT for a body only package.
Utilising a large Dalsa 48mm x 36mm CCD in conjunction with a ASIC processing engine, the Mamiya ZD is able to capture 35MB RAW files. These can then be saved as a RAW file or converted to JPEG on the fly.
Developed exclusively for the Mamiya ZD, the ASIC processor optimises image data from the CCD in real time. The ASIC engine also uses power saving technologies to prolong battery life and promises to provide more accurate white balance.
In addition the ZD features a 1.8-inch LCD monitor for reviewing images, both compact flash and SD memory card slots and a lens mount that?s compatible with 645AF lenses.
