World's first 50x optical zoom compact and latest S-series model continue busy day of announcements
Canon continued what has been a busy day of announcements at this year’s Photokina trade show with the launch of two new PowerShot compacts, with one of the models boasting a world first.
The new PowerShot SX50 HS is the first compact stills camera to offer a 50x optical zoom, covering a massive focal range of 24 – 1200mm in 35mm equivalent terms. The SX50 HS also offers full manual shooting control and support for capture of Raw files – something often overlooked in the advanced or bridge camera market.
The PowerShot SX50 HS features a 2.8in PureColor II vari-angle LCD screen as well as an electronic viewfinder, while the model’s 12.1MP sensor is supported by Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor and offers full HD image capture.
The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS is expected to be available towards the end of next moth, with an RRP of £449.99.
The Canon PowerShot S110 HS is the latest model in the manufacturer’s popular S-series, and continues the range’s tradition of offering a truly advanced shooting experience in a compact and pocketable body. The model features a 12.1MP CMOS sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor, offering an ISO range which extends up to ISO 12800, as well as HD video and Raw capture. A 3in touchscreen LCD sits on the rear of the model, while a 5x optical zoom features with a maximum aperture of f2 at its wide angle.
The S110 HS is the first model in the series to offer Wi-Fi functionality, enabling images to be uploaded to social networking sites on the go.
The Canon PowerShot S110 HS will be available towards the end of October, with an RRP of £429.99.
