Canon IXUS model arrives alongside three new PowerShot compact additions
Canon has announced the new IXUS 140, PowerShot A3500 IS, PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400, completing what has been a busy day for the manufacturer at this year’s CES.
The additions share a range of common characteristics, although there’s no doubting that the slim and stylish Canon IXUS 140 is the most eye-catching release.
The Canon IXUS 140 continues the IXUS trend of offers sleek design combined with high-end performance, and features a 16MP sensor paired with Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor. An 8x optical zoom with 28mm wide angle features, with the lens itself incorporating Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer technology with an Intelligent IS setting to detect camera shake and automatically detecting the correct setting from six different modes to suit. The Canon IXUS 140 also features a 3in PureColor II G LCD screen along with HD video capture.
The Canon IXUS 140 is one two new models to feature Wi-Fi connectivity, compatible with Canon’s CameraWindow application which allows users to wirelessly connect and transfer images or movies to both iOS and Android devices. Canon’s iMAGE GATEWAY is also supported, complete with 10GB of cloud storage
The second new model to offer Wi-Fi functionality is the Canon PowerShot A3500 IS. It utilises the same 16MP sensor, capable of 720p video capture, while a 3in LCD screen is located on the rear. Although the Canon PowerShot A3500 IS features a zoom half the size of the IXUS 140 – at 5x magnification – it still boasts the same 28mm wide angle and Intelligent IS image stabilisation system.
The Canon PowerShot A2600, meanwhile, offers an almost identical specification to the A3500 IS, although its specification is missing Wi-Fi functionality and Canon’s IS system.
The PowerShot A1400 is the final camera of the quartet and is similar to previous entry level PowerShot models. Although it features the same 16MP sensor and 5x optical zoom as that found in the A3500 IS and A2600, its plastic body and 2.7in LCD mean that it’s firmly the more entry-level of the models.
The Canon IXUS 140, PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400 are available from late February with SRPs of £159, £109 and £99 respectively. The Canon PowerShot A3500 IS is due to arrive a little later and should be available from early March with an SRP of £129. For more information on the cameras, head on over to the Canon website.
