A definition of Aperture Priority (Av)
An exposure mode in which the aperture is decided by the user, leaving the camera’s metering system to calculate the shutter speed required to give the correct exposure. DSLRs and compact system cameras offer this mode as standard, as do many enthusiasts compact cameras.
