Following on from her well-received books on pandas and native Chinese wildlife, renowned nature photographer Heather Angel has turned her attention towards Japans indigenous monkey population for her latest book.
As Japans sole species of monkey, the snow macaque lives in the Japanese Alps, where snow covers the ground for much of the year. With its distinctive red face and fluffy light brown fur the snow macaque certainly lends itself well to photography, with the baby macaques in particular able to generate their fair share of ooohs and ahhs.
Angels wildlife photography is up to its usual high standards throughout the book, and captures the full range of behavioural traits, moods and expressions common to her subjects. Her images are enhanced by informative captions and running text that add extra context and information to the pictures. As a concise introduction to Japans monkey population, this is hard to beat
