Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Review – Design
Both the top and bottom plate of the Leica M Monochrom are made from brass, while the rest of the body is constructed from die-cast magnesium alloy. This makes it a fairly heavy camera weighing in at 680g without a lens.
The M-mount lenses the camera uses are renowned for being among the best lenses in the world, but they’re also rather heavy with plenty of glass and high-grade metals used to construct them. However, the camera isn’t particularly big so the weight of it isn’t a big issue for most.
As the camera offers mostly just core, bare-bones camera settings its button layout is very straight forward. There’s a d-pad at the rear and a few buttons alongside the LCD, but not a great deal more
On the top of the camera are the shutter and drive dials along with video recording and the on/off switch. Aperture is controlled entirely by a manual aperture ring, while the focusing is also entirely manual.
