An affordable and slim compact that disappoints in use.

The stylish BenQ X725 compact digital camera features a 7-megapixel sensor and is unquestionably thin at just 12.5mm.

Compact Dimensions

At just 12.5mm, the X725 is unquestionably thin, however that hasn’t led to BenQ sacrificing specification for slimness, as the X725 manages to squeeze in a 7MP sensor and 2.5in LCD screen. The Pentax lens provides a 3x optical zoom (38-113mm equivalent), and the maximum ISO 1250 is adequate.

Rough Edges

The design of the X725 is much like its touch-screen T700 brother. A robust metal body belies the price tag at first, but on further inspection the plastic buttons and the odd rough edge give a touch more away.

Performance Issues

In use the X725 disappoints with a frustrating start-up time of a little over three seconds, whilst the menu system is prohibitively slow.

Images produced have a tendency to be soft at the centre of the frame, gradually falling off further towards the edges, and noise becoming intrusive around ISO 320.
