35mm large format sensor camcorder due next year

Sony has announced that it is developing a new high-end ‘NXCAM’ HD camcorder featuring a Super-35mm equivalent large format CMOS sensor. Furthermore, the new model will adopt the E-mount interchangeable lens system seen in the Alpha NEX-3 and NEX-5 models, as well as the recently announced NEX-VG10.

Not only does the NXCAM HD feature the E-mount, but it will also be compatible with the older Alpha A-mount lenses with the use of the A-mount adapter.

The NXCAM HD will record in AVCHD format, which is widely supported across video editing software, while there are plans to implement 1080p, 60p, 30p, 24p*2 or 50p/25p recording modes.

Sony plans to have the NXCAM on sale towards the middle of 2011, though as yet there is no information on price. For more information and for a short video on the model, visit the Sony website for a full press release.
