SanDisk has announced that the SD Card Associate (SDA) has approved the microSD, which is described as the ?world?s smallest removable storage card.?
Providing compatibility and interoperability with SD devices, the microSD card can be used in devices that currently use SanDisk?s TransFlash cards. These include 40 handsets from Motorola, LG, Kyocera, Samsung and Sagem. SanDisk has announced that support will continue for TransFlash devices; they can be used in devices that are compatible with microSD flash cards.
Paul Reinhardt from SDA comments: ?Adoption of the microSD card specification is a key part of the SDA?s strategy to address the growing needs of the mobile devices market.?
SanDisk announced a 512Mb microSD card, which is currently the largest capacity available. Available in August, it will retail for approximately £40, and is supplied with an adaptor that enables it to be used in SecureDigital compatible products.
