SP-Scan is a new device aimed at professional labs, archivists and photographers, from Image Engineering capable of scanning large quantities of 35mm slides.
Utilise the device by pointing a digital SLR with a macro lens into the projector where it takes a photo of the slide.
Signals are sent from the control unit to the projector to take a photo and move onto the next slide; up to 4000 slides can be photographed in a day.
Canon and Nikon digital SLRs can be used with the SP-Scan; a focal length of 150mm is recommended for Canon 1Ds models and 105mm is recommended for APS-C sensors. The control unit and diffuser plate will be available for Braun Multimag Projectors and, in the near future, Leica Pradovit projectors, all of which need an AV-connector.
The complete package includes: the main control unit, diffuser plate, a slide for manual white balancing and a slide for adjusting the camera in front of a projector. The control unit connects to a computer through a USB interface and is supplied with software enabling users to specify the number of slides per magazine.
