Samsung has released the successor to their NX100 compact system model, offering a higher resolution sensor and smaller body than it’s predecessor. The NX200 also boasts some impressive response times including a 100ms capture time and 400ms shot-to-shot delay.

The 20.3MP sensor offers a significant increase over the 14.6MP offering of the NX100, but is at the same APS-C dimensions. This new sensor can offer up to seven frames per second in continuous shooting mode and 1080p videos, as well as an ISO range of 100-12800. There are also full manual controls, from aperture through to shutter speed, and a rapid startup time.

The body has also received a physical upgrade, reducing the size to 116.5 x 62.5 x 36.2mm. As the NX100 had a fairly bulky frame this reduction is significant, especially as it places it within the range of the Olympus E-PM1 and Pentax Q, even if it is marginally larger than both. A 3inch AMOLED 614k dot LCD is the primary display method, although a hotshoe is included that could presumably support the same viewfinder as the NX100.

i-Function lenses, which allow the functionality of the focus ring to be altered to perform a variety of tasks, are compatible with the NX200. Samsung has also announced four new lenses to be released alongside the NX200 in the 18-200mm zoom lenses and 16mm, 60mm and 85mm fixed focal length lenses.

10 Smart Filters are also available, as is a Magic Frame mode which adds one of 13 different frames to an image. A new 3D panorama mode makes it’s debut in the NX200, allowing users to pan the camera horizontally or vertically and create a 3D image from the results.

The price will be around £699 with a kit lens, and is expected to be available towards the end of this month. More information can be found at Samsung’s website.
