Polaroid PoGo - introducing the magic of the traditional instant Polaroid camera to a whole new digital generation

The Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera will go on sale later this month, and is the first all in one camera and printing device in the UK – introducing the ‘traditional’ Polaroid instant print process to a whole new generation.

The Polaroid PoGo utilises ZINK technology – an ink-free printing process that stands for ‘Zero ink’ – to print without the need to ever replace a cartridge, nor the physical bulk of equipment associated with more traditional printing methods. Instead ZINK paper contains hundreds of millions of dye crystals (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) that sensitively respond to targeted heat pulses, intricately transforming an apparently blank sheet of ZINK photo paper into a full colour image. Images are immediately dry, smudge proof and even water resistant. It’s very clever – if not revolutionary – printing technology that’s perfectly harnessed in the Polaroid Pogo Instant Digital Camera.

Whilst Polaroid is yet to release an official UK press release, the camera is expected to retail for £230, and prints 2x3in ZINK images. At that size, ZINK paper should retail for around £3 for 10 sheets (approx 30p a sheet from FirstCall Photographic) – considerably cheaper than the Polaroid film of old and, interestingly, the very same size. “This is the digital version of our traditional instant camera, which consumers have loved since the 70s,” says Jon Pollock, Vice President and General Manager, Digital Imaging, Polaroid.  Oh the memories; they needn’t be memories anymore…
