Following swiftly on the heels of the S1, the Coolpix S2 is a new slim-line addition to Nikon?s compact range, with a 5MP CCD, 2.5-inch LCD and a 3x optical zoom.
With dimensions of 91.9 x 59 x 22mm, the S2 retains the thin proportions of its stablemate. The 35-105mm sliding zoom lens incorporates what Nikon describes as a ?right-angle? optics system that doesn?t protrude from the camera body. Unlike with the S1, the Nikkor ED lens is protected by a sliding cover and incorporates a splash-proof aluminium body.
A total of 16 scene modes are included in the S2, four of which feature Nikon?s Scene Assist function offering guidance on composition. VGA movies can be captured at a rate of 15fps and you can shoot continuous frames at 1.8 fps. Nikon?s Graphic User Interface (GUI) uses icons or graphics for easy operation.
The S1 includes a range of features designed to improve picture quality including: in- camera redeye removal, an on-screen blur warning and a D-Lighting feature for rectifying underexposed images.
Power is supplied from a single EN-EL8 lithium-ion battery that has the capacity to take up to 190 pictures from a single charge (according to CIPA standard), and it is charged in camera using the supplied Coolstation MV12 dock. The S2 includes 12Mb of internal memory.
The Coolpix S2 is available in June for £299.99. Go to www.nikon.co.uk or call 0800 230 220 to find out more.
