Gitzo has bucked the trend for carbon fibre tripods, developing two new aluminium models.

The new models? lightweight yet strong design and vibration-dampening abilities are directly attributed to the casting, made from Soulid 238, a technical compound 30% lighter than magnesium.

This new casting is coupled with a Basalt fibre centre column to reduce weight and improve stability. The leg warmers have even been redeveloped, with injection-moulded silicon replacing foam.

The new design will be available in two models. Firstly, the GT2330 which offers 3-section legs, a maximum working height of 164cm and support of up to 9kg, at a weight of just 1.78kg. The second model, the GT2340L, offers four-section legs, an eye-level maximum working height of 182cm and support of up to 9kg, weighing in at 1.91kg.

The tripods will be available in May, with prices of £229 and £289 for the GT2330 and GT2340L respectively.
