The Canon IXUS 230 HS, Canon IXUS 1100 HS and Canon PowerShot SX150 released
Canon has announced the release of three new compacts in the 12MP, 8x optical zoom IXUS 230 HS, 12MP, 12x zoom IXUS 1100HS and the 12x zoom and 14MP PowerShot SX150 IS. The two IXUS models are impressively slim, with the usual sleek aesthetics that are indicative of the range, where as the SX150 IS is a compact superzoom.
The Canon IXUS 230 HS combines the slim, slender body and stylish aesthetics which have been indicative of the range since it’s inception, with an impressive feature list including the HS sensor. As has been seen in the likes of the IXUS 220 the HS sensor allows for improved low light performance and a rapid burst rate. With an 8x optical zoom from a 28mm wide angle lens, 12.1MP sensor and 3″ LCD screen there’s plenty for the more discerning user to be content with as well as those after a fashionable compact. A high speed burst mode and slow motion movie is also included, and the IXUS 230 HS will retail at £229 and be on sale in October.
Where the Canon IXUS 1100 HS may contain a number of similar features to the IXUS 230 HS there are a number of noteworthy differences as well. The zoom is increased from 8x to 12x, still offering the same intelligent Image Stabilization. The LCD screen is a 3.2″ LCD Touchscreen, which is impressive on such a compact camera, although the other specs are very similar to the IXUS 230 HS. Both cameras can also utilise a new external flash unit, the HF DC2, to add some more illumination when necessary. The IXUS 1100 HS will cost £369 and be available in October.
Finally the PowerShot SX150 IS is a compact superzoom in the same ilk as the SX130 IS, offering a 12x optical zoom and 14MP sensor alongside full manual controls. Although there is a lack of electronic viewfinder, as there was with the PowerShot SX150 IS’ predecessor, this camera will be of interest to those stepping up from a more basic compact or looking for a DSLR backup. HD movies, a 3″ LCD screen and a number of Creative Filters also appear in this £199 RRP model that’ll be on sale in September.
