The Canon EOS 100D is the smallest and lightest DSLR ever made and slots into the gap between the Canon EOS 1100D and Canon EOS 600D

The Canon EOS 100D is the latest DSLR to be launched and slots into Canon’s product line between the Canon EOS 1100D and the Canon EOS 600D. Boasting modest dimensions (116.8×90.7×69.4mm) and an incredibly lightweight body, the Canon EOS 100D claims the title of being the smallest and lightest DSLR ever made.
The small size of the Canon EOS 100D’s body has been a result of re-engineering many of the camera’s internal parts, including a new drive system with a smaller motor that reduces the shutter unit size, a denser component layout that reduces the EOS 100D’s main board size, as well as a smaller battery. At the heart of the Canon EOS 100D lies a new 18MP, APS-C-sized Hybrid AF II CMOS sensor that delivers an ISO range of 100-12,800 (extendable to 25,600).
Weighing just 370g, the Canon EOS 100D features the EF-S lens mount and is supported by 74 Canon EF mount lenses. Adding to this, the EOS 100D features a 9-point AF arrangement with one central cross-type sensor, much like we’ve seen before in other Canon DSLRs such as the Canon EOS 1100D.
At the rear of the Canon EOS 100D is a 3in, 1040k-dot touchscreen display. Displaying images in the 3:2 aspect ratio, it offers the same level of touch-sensitive control as that found on the Canon EOS 650D and Canon EOS 700D models.
While it features a full suite of manual controls for enthusiast photographers, the EOS 100D is a camera that’s aimed at the new user that’s making the step-up from a compact, with a built-in guide and a host of auto modes for easy shooting.
Bundled with a new 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, the EOS 100D will cost £699, which is equivalent to £50 less than the recently announced Canon EOS 700D (£749).
