Sony Alpha 5100 Review – Design

Sony Alpha 5100 product shot, top

You might expect that a camera with a specification as full as the a5100 might have to be bulky as a result. However, that’s simply not the case as the a5100 is a remarkably compact CSC.

In fact, it’s actually identical to the Sony Alpha 6000 with regards to size which is impressive when you consider how small that model is.

The weight of the camera is also kept to a minimum thanks to the largely plastic construction, while the good news is that this doesn’t result in a lesser quality body.

Tough build

The plastic itself is certainly tough, while the grip itself has a leatherised texture finish giving it a quality feel in the hand.

The presence of the vari-angle screen is welcome, especially when you consider the current propensity for selfies. The screen itself is capable of turning around fully 180-degrees and as such can be viewed from in front of the lens, as well as both at a high and low angle.
