Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM – Our verdict

Canon and its engineers must be praised for constructing one of their finest L-series lenses, and for the way they’ve created one of the best, if not the best, rectilinear wideangle zooms ever made. If you’re a full-frame user who specialises in landscape, architectural or interior photography, and demand a lens that’s not only capable of squeezing as much of your surroundings as possible into the frame, but does so with exceptional optical performance, this is one to add to your wish list. The lens’s price tag is likely to be more than most can justify, which means it will probably creep into more pros’ bags than enthusiasts’. That said, with a day’s hire costing £51 and a week’s hire being available for under £110 (www.hireacamera.com), it’s not entirely out of reach. For a one-off shoot, we’d see this as being a small price to pay to get your hands on this absolutely outstanding piece of glass. Hats off to Canon – it’s a lens that has been well worth the wait.
