Nikon has announced the introduction of a new wide aperture fixed-focal length AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. This lens also incorporates Nikonu2019s Silent Wave Motor (SWM).

Nikon UK has announced the introduction of a new wide aperture fixed-focal length Nikkor lens, the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. This new lens has a fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 for a bright viewfinder experience. Nikon?s compact Silent Wave Motor (SWM) ring-type enables autofocus in cameras without a built-in motor, such as the Nikon D40 and Nikon D60, and on the subject of autofocus, whilst all lens groups shift during focussing, the front element and filter mount does not rotate and the barrel length does not change, which makes it a good lens for close-up photography.

Professional Products and NPS Manager at Nikon Europe, Robert Cristina, had this to say: ?This new fast prime lens re-defines the standard lens concept. The fast apertures, silent AF and compact dimensions deliver brilliant image quality with new creative options for Nikon digital photographers.?

When used with Nikon?s FX-format DSLR cameras, the lens has a normal picture angle, and when mounted on a DX-format DSLR, the picture angle is equivalent to a focal length of approximately 75mm in 35mm format. Its newly developed optical system delivers high performance, and, according to Nikon, efficiently corrects sagittal coma flare and chromatic aberration.

The lens comes with 58mm snap-on front lens cap LC-58, rear lens cap LF-1, bayonet hood HB-47 and lens pouch CL-1013.
