A new 7MP model is to join Pentax?s burgeoning line-up of waterproof compact cameras.
The Optio W20 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors and stalemates to offer a waterproof outer shell, negating the need for a separate underwater housing. This waterproof functionality meets the Class 8 waterproof standard, enabling it to withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous operation at an underwater depth of 1.5 metres. Furthermore, it meets the JIS Class 5 dustproof standard. Aimed at outdoor and adventurous photographers, the camera also features a new Blur Reduction mode in addition to a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD and 1600 maximum ISO.
The camera includes Pentax?s Face Recognition AF and AE, which offer enhanced focus recognition of faces for portrait photography. The technology promises to detect the position of the subject’s face anywhere in the photo frame and then adjust the focus and exposure for the detected position. A further auto-tracking AF feature claims the ability to continuously focus on action of unpredictable subjects.
An Auto Picture automatically determines the shooting conditions for Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, and Program modes and chooses the optimum settings for each subject. Macro focusing from 1cm and 30fps movie recording with anti-shake are also offered.
The Optio W20 will be available from September 2006 at a RRP of £229.99. Find out more information at www.pentax.co.uk.
