The new Olympus Pen E-PL7 is the latest in the stylish E-PL series, newly equipped with built-in Wi-fi, a new top-plate control dial and a reworked tilting LCD screen
Equipped with a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor and the TruePic VII image processor, the Pen E-PL7 is capable of quick and easy online image sharing and comes with a range of 14 different art filters.
The touch-LCD has been reworked from the camera’s predecessor, the E-PL6, now tilting downwards for selfies rather than up.
When you flip the screen down, the E-PL& automatically goes into ‘selfie-mode’, zooming out to wide-angle and converting the LCD into a 3-inch mirror with function buttons for setting up the self-timer.
Olympus’s 3-axis image stabilisation is also included to aid with operating the camera one-handed. Olympus says this will specifically counteract rotational hand movements.
The camera is designed for, Olympus’s release says, ‘People with an eye for style and first-class, creative photography [who] don’t want a bulky, plastic SLR spoiling their carefully crafted, personal look.’
‘When they glance in the mirror, they want their camera to make them look even better.’
Instant sharing is possible with the E-PL7 thanks to the Olympus OI.Share app, which allows it to pair with your smartphone and upload images via Wi-fi. Simply scan a QR code and you’re good to go.
You can then use your phone to control the E-PL7 remotely: zoom in and out, adjust key settings like aperture and shutter speed, start a self-timer or use the phone as a live view screen.
A range of accessories is also available for the Pen E-PL7, including body jackets, lens caps and straps, all in leather.
The Olympus Pen E-PL7 will be available from late September 2014, priced £499 with a 14-42mm pancake zoom lens bundled in. It will be available in a choice of white, black or silver.
