Adobe Photoshop CS5 launched
The latest version of Adobe Photoshop – Adobe Photoshop CS5 has been launched, offering numerous new features over its predecessor. Offering native 64-bit support on both Mac and PC means the suite is far more powerful, and the likes of Content-Aware Fill make lower level cloning far easier.
Instead of having to select an area of the image to copy across an unwanted section, Content-Aware Fill simply extracts surrounding information. After using this feature in the Beta version of the Adobe Photoshop CS5 it became clear that certain images work far better than others, such as brickwork, but it can make the cloned area unrecognisable from the rest of the image.
Refine Edge is more akin to a selection tool, taking rough cutouts and cleaning up the edges as well as including discarded sections via a combination of manual brushwork and auto-recognising.
The painting tool is now far closer to it’s real world equivalent, allowing paint mixing via a series of realistic brush types, potentially creating works of art from photos.
The 3D object creation has also received a huge upgrade, adding plenty of features covering shadowing and reflection.
Also added is a Puppet Warp feature, which allows virtual joints to be added to an image to warp or reposition sections, a customisable Mini-Bridge as well as enhanced HDR features and a Adobe Camera Raw update that sees a more intelligent algorithm process images better and render more detail and sharpness from the file.
