Canon EOS 1200D vs Canon EOS 100D – Comparison

Although there might be around a year of development between the two – with the EOS 100D also debuting around £300 more expensive than the EOS 1200D at launch – the 100D and 1200D are now broadly comparable.

The two models are actually very similar in terms of core imaging functionality. Both feature Canon’s 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor, also sharing the same 9-point AF system complete with a single central cross-type AF point.

The pair are also both capable of capturing full HD video at 1080p, although the differences do begin to show with the EOS 100D facilitating continuous AF in movie mode.

Elsewhere it’s safe to say that the EOS 100D, somewhat unsurprisingly, begins to pull away in terms of spec.

The model features a much more impressive 3in, 1,040k-dot touchscreen LCD in comparison to the 460k-dot non-touch variety on the 1200D, while a DIGIC 5 image processor promises better image quality and a faster continuous shooting speed of 4fps compared to 3fps.

However if you’re happy with the lower shooting speed and the lesser quality LCD screen, there are a lot of other similarities between the two. It’s also worth considering that you could afford a 50mm prime lens with the money you’ll save by choosing the EOS 1200D over the 100D.
