There’s no disguising the fact that carrying around a prosumer DSLR (or larger), complete with bulky tele-zoom lens can be a bit of a pain. To the same end, designing a bag to carry said configuration must provide an equal headache for manufacturers, owing to the peculiar dimensions of the set-up.

Think Tank Photo, however, has succeeded in providing a solution which both provides a carrying solution and offers padding and security when in use.

Think Tank was founded by a range of designers and photographers, all experts in the field of photography, with the goal of capitalising on their product knowledge and experience. The Digital Holster range features five models, with the Digital Holster 30 offering support for prosumer DSLRs, such as the Canon 5D Mk II, Nikon D700 and so on, when fitted with a tele-zoom lens. As a result, the shape of the bag bears a resemblance to an elephant’s trunk in profile, with the DSLR accommodated top-down and lens-first.

The bag features a nice element of design insofar as the bottom is expandable, by way of a simple zip, so as to accommodate a lens with lens hood in position. It goes on to offer a removable rain jacket, and extra storage via an external pocket, though it’s just large enough for memory cards and the like. The bag also features several design tweaks for extra protection, such as an interior flap for protection of the camera’s LCD screen.

Verdict

Overall, the Digital Holster 30 is a bag well suited to its task of carrying a prosumer DSLR and tele-zoom lens, a task which it performs admirably. Its negatives reside in the fact that it offers little more than that function, with little extra storage beyond the necessary.
