The title of the book is a little misleading as EVIL stands for Electronic-Viewfinder Interchangeable-Lens camera. This is not a new system – just another, more American term for Compact System Cameras (CSCs).
This book is aimed at those with a CSC or thinking about buying one. There’s advice on the various camera systems – though the Nikon 1 series and Pentax Q don’t feature – and what to look for in a lens, as well as the the basics of how a CSC works.
That aside, the book talks about the principles of photography so you move away from the auto mode and start shooting with the manual controls, while there’s a host of sound technique advice as well.
If you’ve already brought a CSC, then there are better technique books out there – the principles of photography for DSLRs carry over to CSCs. If you’re toying with the idea of a CSC, then this is worth a look if you want to understand the system more and see what it can do.
