Nikon Coolpix S610 Review
This is one of two versions of this model, with the S610c offering the option of Wi-Fi connection. This one, the S610, has the more familiar USB connection and the current fastest start-up time of 0.7sec plus a new Active Child mode with tracking AF.
In operation the camera is pretty much an automatic affair, with 16 scene modes as well as Program Auto Exposure. The AF also has face recognition, as well as a smile detection mode which fails to work as well as some other manufacturers’ systems. The camera is responsive and the Active Child mode works well as does the flash, which is nice and quick.
The 10MP sensor captures plenty of detail and the 224-segment metering does a cracking job of handling exposure. At the lower ISO range images are noise-free, and even at ISO 1600 the detail is well-maintained.
Verdict
As a quick shooter this is a corker and ideal for parents, though there is a price premium.
