Feature Laden

Canon’s IXUS range has long been the market leader with regards to design-driven compacts, and the 10MP IXUS 90 IS is no exception. A 3x optical zoom, complete with lens-based image stabilisation, is joined by a breathtaking 3in PureColour LCD screen, along with face and motion detection, with images taken then processed by Canon’s DIGIC III processor.

Design Driven

Where Canon triumphs, as with previous IXUS models, is in its design. The IXUS 90 IS has a reassuring weight to it, and the function button looks as though it may be more at home on a spaceship than a digital camera, with circular mode dial completing the intuitive interface.

Image Quality

The 90 IS handles extremely well, and image quality is generally good. Tones are excellent throughout the frame, fringing is kept to a minimum and highlights rarely blow out. Noise is also barely an issue up to ISO 800.

Verdict

A stunning compact with a striking LCD screen – and a pleasure to use.
