The Sony Alpha A700 replacement model penciled in for a summer-time 2011 release date. What Digital Camera has the latest Sony Alpha A77 newsu2026

Since its announcement last year, the Sony Alpha A700 replacement model, dubbed the ‘A77′ by many, has been causing quite a stir. Following on from the success of the Sony A55 and A33 SLT (Single Lens Translucent technology), the latest A77 model will follow in the same vein, providing a translucent shutter system that doesn’t require moving, mechanical parts. As a result we suspect that the A77 will be the first Alpha model to marry a hardily-built body with the SLT technology for super-fast shooting.

Paul Genge, Sony’s UK Technical Marketing Manger for DSLR, was pleased to present the latest transparent mock-up body of the A77 to What Digital Camera, but refused to comment on the final specification. ‘We now know the full spec, but you’ll have to wait until nearer the summer to find out the full details,’ he told us. At least, therefore, we know the model is likely to reveal itself in full over the coming months for a summer-time release date this very year. We’ll be bringing you more Sony Alpha A700 replacement (A77) news as and when we find out those all-important details.
