Samsung has today announced the launch of the 10.2-megapixel GX-10 digital SLR, a product of the manufacturer?s ongoing relationship with Pentax and Samsung?s most advanced DSLR to date.
The camera, which appears to be heavily influenced by Pentax?s recently announced K10D, boasts a 10.2 mega-pixel image sensor, 2.5? wide view LCD (210k pixels) and Pentaprism viewfinder with 0.95x magnification. Optical Picture Stabilization (OPS) technology is featured, which reduces blurring by shifting the CCD to counter movement of the camera body. OPS also uses lens information to ensure results remain sharp.
For shooting in wet, sandy or dusty conditions the camera comes equipped with a waterproof and anti-dust coating. An internal dust removal function also clears problematic dust from the CCD by vibrating automatically when the camera is booted. A further dust barrier is provided by a special coating on the CCD?s protective window.
Continuous JPEG shooting at 3fps is supported for JPEG, while RAW files can be shot at the same speed up to 9 frames. Users can instantly switch to RAW mode through a dedicated on-body button.
The GX-10 has been designed to make customization easier using a My Set Dial option. This enables users to personalise dial settings by choosing the most frequently used functions.
Samsung also announced five new lenses alongside the GX-10, due at the end of 2006. The lenses include a fish eye (10-17mm F3.5-F4.5 ED), an ultra wide zoom (12-24mm F4 ED AL), a wide zoom (16-45mm F4 ED AL), a fixed focus lens (35mm F2 AL) and a macro model (100mm F2.8). The lenses will also be compatible with the DSLRs launched by Samsung earlier in the year ? the GX-1S and GX-1L.
The GX-10 and lenses are expected to be available from October, with prices being announced at that time. Full details are available at www.samsung.co.uk
