A Russian photographer uses some simple techniques to recapture history
Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov has replicated the locations and angles of a number of images from World War 2, then merged them to create some impressive results. With many of the landmarks across Eastern Europe severely damaged or host to a large military presence, which creates an interesting jux d’position with the throngs of tourists and modern cars dotted around.
A similar effect has been created on the site HistoryPin, which offers vintage photos overlaid on the modern Google maps streetview, although the results aren’t quite as accurate.
