Unlucky photographer suffers pixel burnout due to a laser

How to break your 5D in a second from Agua on Vimeo.

There’s an old adage of ‘don’t look into the light’ that one photographer should’ve heeded after suffering a pixel burnout on his Canon EOS 5D Mk II. As the video mode leaves the pixels entirely exposed to light, unlike the occasional snap which is only open for a split second, the likelihood of such an incident happening is increased. According to Canon’s David Parry, who works in Product Intelligence, Photo/Video “They have overloaded the pixel with light causing it to burn in the same way as if a laser was shone into a human retina it would cause permanent damage.”
