Nikon has upgraded its Coolpix camera range with the announcement of a new bridge camera with a 24x optical zoom.

The Coolpix P90 features a 12.1 megapixel LCD screen, a 26-624mm equivalent lens with Vibration Reduction, a 3 inch vari-angle LCD screen and high sensitivity shooting up to ISO 6400.

The camera boasts high-speed continuous shooting at up to 15 fps for 45 shots, PASM exposure modes for control over exposure, and various other Nikon technologies including four Anti-blur technologies, Auto Scene and Face Priority AF, recognising up to twelve faces. It also includes features such as Smile Mode and Blink Warning, Nikon’s proprietary D-Lighting for shadow/highlight control in high contrast lighting, and a time-lapse movie mode.

Mark Pekelharing, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon Europe enthused: “This camera demonstrates Nikon’s devotion to camera enthusiasts. The amazingly powerful 24x zoom, 3.0-inch LCD screen with vari-angle tilt function, vibration reduction, and high sensitivity make the P90 a no-compromise bridge between a compact camera and a D-SLR.”

The Coolpix P90 will be on sale from 13th March at a launch price of £379.99. We’ll be conducting a full test as soon as we can get our hands on a review sample. Watch this space.
