Sigma has added a new 50mm prime lens to its DG range of optics, compatible with both full-frame and APS-C sized sensors.

The 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM features a molded aspherical element and multi-layer coatings, while its Hypersonic Motor (HSM) ensures it will autofocus with Nikon?s motorless bodies ? namely the D40, D40x and D60.

The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification factor of 1:7.4, while its EX designation means that it sits in the company’s professional range of lenses.

The lens will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony mounts, though autofocusing will only operate on Pentax and Sony bodies that support its Hypersonic Motor.
