?Earth from the Air? is a free photographic exhibition on London?s South Bank containing work from Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
The outdoor exhibition is comprised of more than 120 large images located outside the More London centre near Tower Bridge on the South Bank. Most of the photographs were taken by Arthus-Bertrand from a helicopter, offering a unique perspective of 100 countries, and are part of his ongoing project to photograph the planet. Photos on display are incredibly diverse; from the paintbrush-esque quality of farmers? fields in Argentina and the vibrant colours of Yellowstone National Park to abandoned tanks in the Iraqi desert and a deserted Chernobyl. Alongside each photograph is a caption discussing environmental issues.
Since commencing in 1999 the exhibition has visited 54 countries, and this UK show contains seven new works from Arthus-Bertrand. Supported by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFTA) and the World Wildlife Fund, the exhibition hopes to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the planet. Mayor Ken Livingstone who opened the exhibition comments: ?This spectacular and thought-provoking set of aerial photographs illustrates the relationship between human beings and our planet. I am delighted to welcome the exhibition to London in order to reinforce the message that we need to play a part in protecting the environment for future generations.?
