The winners of The Natural History Museum’s prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year for 2013 have finally been unveiled. Selected from almost 43,000 entries from 96 countries, the winners offer a glimpse of the stunning array of natural beauty on our planet.

The top prize has gone to South African photographer Greg du Toit for his image titled ‘Essence of Elephants’ (above), a portrait of African elephants in motion, taken in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana.

The exhibition will be opening at the Natural History Museum on October 18. In the meantime, scroll down to see a selection of the fantastic images from this year’s competition:
