Canon has announced six new PowerShot models, all of which boast a large 16MP sensor. The main differences between the models stem from the zoom ranges, which is from 5x-8x, and the presence of optical stabilization.

The lowest model in the range is the AA battery powered PowerShot A810, which has a 5x zoom and digital image stabilization.  HD movies are at the 720p resolution, and there's a Help button for absolute beginners.

The A1300 adds an optical viewfinder, but otherwise keeps the features the same. the A2300 is the last model offering digital stabilization as opposed to optical, and switches from AA batteries to Li-ion.

The PowerShot A2400 IS add the optical Intelligent Stabilization, but remains otherwise the same as the model below it. The A3400 IS bumps the LCD screen dimensions up to 3inch from the 2.7inch offered on the other models, where the A4000 IS increases the zoom to 8x.

This group of new compacts will be aimed at the beginner end of the market, ranging between £90 and £170 RRP. With such a range of features switching between the PowerShot A range a newcomer can virtually cater the compact to thier needs.

The new PowerShot range can be found in shops between now and April, with the PowerShot A1300 at £109, the PowerShot A810 at £89, PowerShot A4000 IS at £169, PowerShot A3400 IS at £149, PowerShot A2400 IS at £129 and PowerShot A2300 at £119. More information can be found at Canon's website.
