Canon's latest L-series lens development will include a 1.4x extender inside its construction to make a 200-400mm capable of 280-560mm at the flick of a switch...

Canon’s latest development is a telephoto zoom lens that features an integrated focal length extender in the form of the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x.

Designed for Canon EOS DSLRs, the new lens will be ideal for sports or wildlife photography thanks to its built-in 1.4x extender that creates an increased focal range of 280-560mm. The EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x will increase the range of subjects it’s possible to shoot using one relatively compact lens. However, details are relatively thin on the ground as to how the included extender affects the lens’s capabilities – how much sacrifice is given to the widest aperture, sharpness performance and so forth. We’re certainly very curious to find out and will endeavour to review the lens upon its release, though no date has been firmly penned in as yet.

The 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x should be highly impressive thanks to its L-series designation, always ensuring a certainty of top class quality. More info as and when we have it.
