CIOB Launches International Photography Competition

†
Ascot, Berkshire 13 April 2010: The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is excited to launch ‘The Art of Building,' its first major international digital photography competition. The contest, which is open to everyone from professional photographers to enthusiastic amateur snappers alike, aims to encourage entrants from around the world to explore and capture the art of building in an imaginative, inspiring and thought-provoking way.
†
The CIOB, a Registered Charity, operates as the public face of building representing the most diverse set of professionals in the construction industry. It believes that the competition will help to celebrate the creativity of the industry, the passion of the people who work within it and the impact that their work has on our daily lives.
†
Entrants are encouraged to capture the built environment in a way not seen before, to inspire others and to challenge people's perceptions. ††Most importantly however, the CIOB hopes that the competition will provoke people to have fun and gain a new perspective.
†
"The spirit of the competition is about sharing and inspiring others with unique and creative visions of an innovative industry," says Michael Brown, deputy chief executive of the CIOB. †"We spend most of our time in buildings and they are central to our quality of life, yet few of us take the time to really look at our homes, offices and public buildings and consider the amazing diversity of architectural styles, as well as how practical and fundamental buildings are for society and what they say about our cultures." †
†
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 and is free to enter. A panel of judges including Michael Brown of the CIOB, Elaine Knutt, editor of Construction Manager and award-winning photographer Matt Wain will be responsible for shortlisting 12 finalists, all of whom will receive international recognition in industry and national media. The overall winner, to be decided by public vote, will also scoop a cash prize of £500.
†
Up to three photographs per person may be entered into the competition which will be open for entry until May 31. Entries may be digitally enhanced or altered but must be submitted via the website in a JPEG format not less than 1mb per photo in size, with a maximum file size of 5mb. For more details about the competition and to enter, log on to www.artofbuilding.org . The competition can also be found on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Art_of_Building
