Ricoh has introduced the 6MP Caplio R4 compact, which boasts a 7.1x lens.
Available in black and silver, the R4’s slim body includes a 7.1x optical wideangle 28-200mm lens, thanks to the Double-Retracting Lens System in which part of the lens protrudes outside the camera body.
Since the camera’s predecessor the R3, Ricoh has increased the resolution of the 2.5in LCD to 150,000 pixels, while the brightness can quickly be adjusted to suit different shooting conditions.
To detect and rectify the effects of camera shake the R4 includes a Vibration Reduction System, which moves the CCD to counter shake and produce sharp images. Frequently used icons can be enlarged for ease of viewing.
Ricoh claims that the supplied lithium-ion battery can take 330 pictures from a single charge. Macro photographs can be taken 1cm from the subject, and zoom macro automatically adjusts the focus for optimum results.
Other features include a skew correction function that corrects uneven angles, such as trapezoids, and converts them to rectangles.
The Caplio R4 will be hitting the shops in March for £249.99.
Ricoh has also introduced ‘Creative Sets’ for two of its digital cameras, comprising the camera and a selection of accessories.
Retailing for £699, the GR Digital Creative Set includes the GR Digital – an 8MP compact with f/2.4 lens – accompanied by: a rechargeable battery; charger; wide conversion lens; external viewfinder; hood; hood adaptor; camera case; and neck strap.
Alongside an 8MP camera with a 28-85mm lens, the GX8 Creative Set includes: battery; charger; wide conversion lens; hood; hood adaptor; camera case; and neck strap. It will cost £349.99.
