The Olympus mju 810, an 8MP compact, combines high ISO levels with Digital Image Stabilisation, to reduce the effects of camera shake.
Constructed from weatherproof stainless steel ? protecting the interior from dust, water and snow ? the mju 810 includes a 3x optical 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) lens.
Olympus has made some adjustments to the design; the shutter has been repositioned, while the collapsible lens enables a slim 17mm body.
BrightCapture Technology ensures that the 2.5in LCD – which is composed of 230,000 pixels – is 4x brighter than conventional LCDs. For shooting in dim conditions, the sensitivity can be adjusted from ISO 64-1600, while remaining at maximum resolution. This increases to ISO 3200 for 3MP images. In addition, the Digital Image Stabilisation Edit function uses a Gyro Sensor to rectify the effects of camera shake. It works by saving the new image as a separate file without overriding the original.
Olympus claims that this stabilisation uses less battery power, enabling the lithium-ion rechargeable cell to last longer. Candle, Landscape, Portrait and Sports are among the 20 scene modes on the camera, which also includes a 640×480 30fps movie mode.
Priced around £330, the mju 810 also includes: a histogram; Guide Function, explaining the menu choices; 10cm Super Macro mode; and Pictbridge compatibility.
The Olympus mju 810 is available from March.
