February 8th sees the release of software package CorelDRAW X3 Graphics Suite, with more than 40 new and improved features. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 comprises of: CorelDRAW X3, PHOTO-PAINT, Capture X3 and Pixmantec RawShooter Essentials. The package is suitable for digital photographers, small business users and design professionals. Corel says it has taken account of customer feedback to tailor the package to suit user needs, with fast, easy-to-use tools aiding productivity. Nick Davies from Corel said: ‘We’ve deepened our customer interaction, taking our understanding of users’ needs to a whole new level. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 has raised the standard for ease of use and productivity across the graphics industry.’ Among the features new to the program, Corel PowerTRACE converts bitmaps into editable vector graphics. The Image Adjustment Lab (which can be accessed in Corel PHOTO-PAINT and DRAW) has manual and automatic controls for improving colour balance problems; and, for quick reference, the user can create snapshots of each change. The enhanced Interactive Fit Text to Path enables users to quickly attach text to a path, a feature particularly useful for creating logos. The Hints Docker has been developed to offer guidance on using the tools and includes a selection of hints and tips. Other advice comes from the supplied CorelDraw handbook. Based on Corel KnockOut, the Cutout Lab includes new Add Detail and Remove Detail buttons, making it easier for the user to create cutouts. Users can also protect PDF files with a password, determine viewing options and whether or not a file can be edited or copied. Other new features include the Smart Fill tool, Crop tool and the Bevel effect. Supplied with the suite are 10,000 clipart and digital images, 1000 OpenType fonts, 100 templates and 35 Windows Glyph List 4. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 will be available in February for £386 (£329 +VAT) and £100 for the student and teacher edition (£85 +VAT).
