The R3 is the latest addition to the Caplio range; a slim 5MP model featuring a wideangle 7.1x optical zoom and vibration control.
Described as the largest in its class, the 28-200mm lens fits into a body 26mm deep, thanks to the Double Retracting Lens System in which part of the lens protrudes from the camera body when it is stored.
To rectify camera shake and help produce sharp images, the Vibration Correction Function moves the CCD, countering movement ? particularly in indoor conditions without the flash, in macro mode or when the lens is at telephoto position.
In common with other models in the Caplio range, the R3 promises a fast shutter-release time of 0.09sec (decreasing to 0.007sec with focus lock), a 1.1sec start-up and 0.5sec shooting interval.
Other features include a 2.5in LCD screen, a rechargeable battery with the capacity to shoot 310 pictures (according to CIPA standard) and a 1cm macro. The new Zoom Macro function automatically chooses the best focal length for the subject, while objects photographed from the side ? such as signs and documents ? can be rectified to appear as if they were taken from the front, thanks to the Skew Correct function.
Ricoh has yet to announce a price for the R3, which will be available in black and silver. Find out more from www.ricohpmmc.co.uk or by calling 0208 261 4031.
