Epson-compatible print cartridge sales cease

An out of court settlement has been reached between and Epson and Environmental Business Products regarding the sale of Epson-compatible cartridges.

An out of court settlement has been reached between and Epson and Environmental Business Products regarding the sale of Epson-compatible cartridges. Epson brought High Court proceedings against Environmental Business Products for: ‘infringement of a number of patents and registered designs belonging to Epson in respect of Environmental Business Products Ltd's acts of importation and supplying.’ Environmental Business Products, who are one of the largest importer and distributor of printer cartridges compatible with Epson products in the UK, will now have to pay Epson’s legal costs and damages. Pat Stead from Environmental Business Products Limited said: ‘We have ceased importing and supplying Epson-compatible cartridges because we are not confident of finding Epson compatibles that do not infringe one of more of Seiko Epson’s patents and registered designs.’ Mr Seiichi Hirano of Epson said: ‘We will continue the enforcement of our intellectual property to protect our innovative products against importers supplying infringing products.’
