Two giants of the software industry are set to combine forces, following the news that Adobe is set to acquire Macromedia in a deal worth $3.4 billion.

Two giants of the software industry are set to combine forces, following the news that Adobe is set to acquire Macromedia in a deal worth $3.4 billion. Adobe is probably best known for its digital imaging software Photoshop, video-editing software Premiere and publishing software Indesign. Products in the Macromedia stable includes web publishing software Studio MX, Flash MX and Dreamweaver. The two companies are hoping to expand into new markets with more commanding products. Bruce Chizen from Adobe comments: ‘By combining our powerful development, authoring and collaboration software – along with the complementary functionality of PDF and Flash – Adobe has the opportunity to bring this vision to life with an industry-defining technology platform.’ The agreement will be finalised at the end of the year.
