The RUP-40 has a very similar design to the Manfrotto and Silk 350 monopods, with a matt black body, cushioned foam handle and wrist support. It folds down further than the Slik 350 and reaches just 2cm less when fully extended.
The barrel is narrower than the other two, but the clips lock securely and it feels very solid when at its maximum height. There isn't a head, but as with the other two models this is aimed at DSLR users supporting large lenses and heavy camera bodies. It's heavier than the Slik, but only by 60g, so probably wouldn't be noticeable over a day's shooting.
Max. height: 158cm
Folded length: 49cm
Leg sections: 4
Head: No
Weight: 360g

Have bought and sold secondhand two monopods in the past two years, neither were fit for purpose, a light manfrotto - no head, and a sturdy giottos with built in pan head. One was too flimsy and useless with a heavy lens, the other was good but the pan handle got in the way. The Velbon here is perfect, great height if needed, folds short for carrying etc, it's very light considering it's also very sturdy. I had just about given up on monopods, thank goodness I got this one. It takes a while to learn to stabilise the other movements you'll still have with a single leg tripod, which is what this is, but with practice, I've come to love using this, and unlike a heavier tripod, it goes with me everywhere now. Doubles as a walking stick but by FAR the best monopod I've found, well, without spending silly money anyway. Well done Velbon, definitely up to the standards of the Sherpa 600r tripods.
